Morrison,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\">ICAE President <\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Inclusion and diversity are two sides of the same coin. Inclusion can only succeed if we recognise our differences \u2013 our diversity \u2013 and the articles examined through this Virtual Seminar speak to the\u00a0 experiences of those grounded in their communities who are advocates for creating an inclusive society which is civil and just. Several themes emerge from the discussions:<\/p>\n<p>Firstly who decides who is included? Secondly how can space be created to allow for the inclusion of others that allows for them to stand in their own integrity? Thirdly what contribution can adult education make and further to that question which learning approaches, programmes and institutions are needed to create an inclusive (adult) education system?<\/p>\n<p>These are big questions to which there is no easy answers but let me attempt to unpack some \u201cstray\u201d thoughts that may move the debate. Despite huge efforts forward in the civil and human rights agenda, there is a growing tide of intolerance and xenophobia as evidenced particularly by the Trump campaign. Such opinions are symptomatic of a faction of society who struggle, or whose ignorance has enabled that faction to perpetuate a hegemonic discourse which promotes prejudice and myths rather than thoughtful examination of the issues. This is where adult educators come in. Adult educators deal with factors that cause people across the globe to feel excluded and inhibit individuals from achieving their fullest potential. Imagine how economic development opportunities could improve if that suppressed potential was unleashed let alone strengthen us as people. As adult educators we must create civil and just societies by teaching our students to think critically and to have a respect for other forms of cultures.\u00a0 As adult educators we conduct our work in our own unique contexts as evidenced \u00a0by the reviewed articles and within a number of shared assumptions. Some of these are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>That our interactions and relationships take place in a climate of mutual respect for others including culture, religion, life choices, sexual orientation, life directing values and ethnicity.<\/li>\n<li>That we have respect for the individual and also the collective grouping to which they belong in the community and the knowledge and expertise that emerges from that community\u2019s efforts<\/li>\n<li>That our work as adult educators is to create space so that equitable outcomes can be achieved which will uphold the cohesiveness of society<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Given the role that society expects of us as adult educators and our critic and conscience role, then we must firstly rebuke an unacceptable display of behaviour and, secondly, show support for our colleagues who belong to those excluded sectors by creating space for their inclusion\u2026and their inclusion on equal grounds. Unpacking notions of power and control through performing social analyses can occur no matter what environment we find ourselves in, be it in the arts, in the classroom or in community contexts. These actions could lead us to giving effect to a set of principles which will frame our work and respect for life and human dignity, equal rights and social justice. While we know all this, in fact these thoughts are probably preaching to the converted, it is through sharing our lived experiences that we can be prompted into action and new thinking.<\/p>\n<p>In my culture, the indigenous culture of Aotearoa New Zealand, we have a proverb that asks\u201d what is the most important thing in the world?\u201d The reply is \u201cIt is people, it is people, it is people!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We thanks those authors who have shared their experiences from their different regions and contexts, which have inspired us to reach for new initiatives in the inclusion and diversity debate.<a id=\"section1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>_________________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Palabras de cierre de\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Sandra L. \u00a0Morrison,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Presidenta del ICAE\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>La inclusi\u00f3n y la diversidad son dos caras de la misma moneda. La inclusi\u00f3n solo puede tener \u00e9xito si reconocemos nuestras diferencias, nuestra diversidad, y los art\u00edculos examinados a trav\u00e9s de este Seminario Virtual hablan de las experiencias de aquellos que est\u00e1n arraigados en sus comunidades y que abogan por la creaci\u00f3n de una sociedad inclusiva que sea civil y justa. Varios temas surgen de las discusiones:<\/p>\n<p>En primer lugar, \u00bfqui\u00e9n decide qui\u00e9n est\u00e1 incluido? En segundo lugar, \u00bfc\u00f3mo se puede crear espacio para permitir la inclusi\u00f3n de otros que les permita posicionarse en su propia integridad? En tercer lugar, \u00bfqu\u00e9 contribuci\u00f3n puede hacer la educaci\u00f3n de personas adultas y, a partir de ah\u00ed, qu\u00e9 enfoques, programas e instituciones de aprendizaje se necesitan para crear un sistema educativo (de personas adultas) inclusivo?<\/p>\n<p>Estas son preguntas importantes para las que no hay respuestas f\u00e1ciles, pero perm\u00edtanme intentar analizar algunos pensamientos &#8220;aislados&#8221; que pueden mover el debate. A pesar de los grandes esfuerzos en la agenda civil y de derechos humanos, existe una oleada creciente de intolerancia y xenofobia, como lo demuestra particularmente la campa\u00f1a de Trump. Estas opiniones son sintom\u00e1ticas de una facci\u00f3n de la sociedad que lucha, o cuya ignorancia le ha permitido a esa facci\u00f3n perpetuar un discurso hegem\u00f3nico que promueve prejuicios y mitos en lugar de un examen reflexivo de los problemas. Aqu\u00ed es donde entran en juego los\/as educadores\/as de personas adultas. Los\/as educadores\/as de personas adultas se ocupan de los factores que causan que las personas en todo el mundo se sientan excluidas y las inhiben de alcanzar su m\u00e1ximo potencial. Imaginen c\u00f3mo podr\u00edan mejorar las oportunidades de desarrollo econ\u00f3mico si ese potencial reprimido se desplegara, adem\u00e1s de que nos fortalecer\u00eda como personas. Como educadores\/as de personas adultas debemos crear sociedades civiles y justas, ense\u00f1\u00e1ndoles a nuestros estudiantes a pensar de forma cr\u00edtica y respetar otras formas de cultura.\u00a0 Como educadores\/as de personas adultas realizamos nuestro trabajo en nuestros propios contextos \u00fanicos, como lo demuestran los art\u00edculos estudiados y dentro de una serie de suposiciones compartidas. Estas son algunas de ellas:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Que nuestras interacciones y relaciones se llevan a cabo en un clima de respeto mutuo por los dem\u00e1s, incluida la cultura, la religi\u00f3n, las opciones de vida, la orientaci\u00f3n sexual, los valores que dirigen la vida y la identidad \u00e9tnica.<\/li>\n<li>Que tenemos respeto por el individuo y tambi\u00e9n por la agrupaci\u00f3n colectiva a la que pertenecen en la comunidad y el conocimiento y la experiencia que surge de los esfuerzos de esa comunidad<\/li>\n<li>Que nuestro trabajo como educadores\/as de personas adultas es crear espacio para lograr resultados equitativos que mantengan la cohesi\u00f3n de la sociedad<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Dado el papel que la sociedad espera de nosotros\/as como educadores\/as de personas adultas y nuestra \u00a0funci\u00f3n cr\u00edtica y de conciencia, en primer lugar debemos reprender un comportamiento inaceptable y, en segundo lugar, mostrar apoyo a nuestros\/as colegas que pertenecen a esos sectores excluidos al crear espacio para su inclusi\u00f3n &#8230; y su inclusi\u00f3n en igualdad de condiciones. Desentra\u00f1ar nociones de poder y control mediante la realizaci\u00f3n de an\u00e1lisis sociales puede ocurrir sin importar en qu\u00e9 entorno nos encontremos, ya sea en las artes, en el aula o en contextos comunitarios. Estas acciones podr\u00edan llevarnos a dar efecto a un conjunto de principios que enmarcar\u00e1n nuestro trabajo y el respeto por la vida y la dignidad humana, la igualdad de derechos y la justicia social. Si bien sabemos todo esto, de hecho estos pensamientos probablemente est\u00e1n predicando para los conversos; es a trav\u00e9s de compartir nuestras experiencias vividas que podemos ser impulsados a la acci\u00f3n y el pensamiento nuevo.<\/p>\n<p>En mi cultura, la cultura ind\u00edgena de Aotearoa Nueva Zelanda, tenemos un proverbio que pregunta &#8220;\u00bfqu\u00e9 es lo m\u00e1s importante del mundo?&#8221; La respuesta es &#8220;\u00a1Son las personas, son las personas, son las personas!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Agradecemos a los autores que han compartido sus experiencias de sus diferentes regiones y contextos, que nos han inspirado a buscar nuevas iniciativas en el debate sobre la inclusi\u00f3n y la diversidad.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"section2\"><\/a>_________________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Mots de conclusion de Sandra L. Morrison,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Pr\u00e9sidente de l&#8217;ICAE<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>L&#8217;inclusion et la diversit\u00e9 sont les deux faces d&#8217;une m\u00eame pi\u00e8ce. L&#8217;inclusion ne peut r\u00e9ussir que si nous reconnaissons nos diff\u00e9rences &#8211; notre diversit\u00e9 &#8211; et les articles examin\u00e9s \u00e0 travers ce S\u00e9minaire virtuel parlent des exp\u00e9riences de ceux qui sont ancr\u00e9s dans leurs communaut\u00e9s et qui pr\u00f4nent la cr\u00e9ation d&#8217;une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 inclusive, civile et juste. Plusieurs th\u00e8mes \u00e9mergent des d\u00e9bats\u00a0:<\/p>\n<p>Premi\u00e8rement, qui d\u00e9cide qui est inclus\u00a0? Deuxi\u00e8mement, comment l&#8217;espace peut-il \u00eatre cr\u00e9\u00e9 pour permettre l&#8217;inclusion d&#8217;autres personnes qui leur permettent de rester dans leur propre int\u00e9grit\u00e9\u00a0? Troisi\u00e8mement, quelle contribution peut apporter l&#8217;\u00e9ducation des adultes et, en plus de cette question, quelles sont les approches, programmes et institutions d&#8217;apprentissage n\u00e9cessaires pour cr\u00e9er un syst\u00e8me \u00e9ducatif (adulte) inclusif\u00a0?<\/p>\n<p>Ce sont de grandes questions auxquelles il n&#8217;y a pas de r\u00e9ponses faciles, mais permettez-moi de d\u00e9gager quelques pens\u00e9es \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9pars\u00a0\u00bb susceptibles de faire bouger le d\u00e9bat. Malgr\u00e9 les \u00e9normes efforts d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s dans le domaine des droits de l&#8217;homme et des droits civils, il y a une vague croissante d&#8217;intol\u00e9rance et de x\u00e9nophobie, comme en t\u00e9moigne notamment la campagne Trump. De telles opinions sont symptomatiques d&#8217;une faction de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 qui lutte, ou dont l&#8217;ignorance a permis \u00e0 cette faction de perp\u00e9tuer un discours h\u00e9g\u00e9monique qui favorise les pr\u00e9jug\u00e9s et les mythes plut\u00f4t qu&#8217;un examen r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi des probl\u00e8mes. C&#8217;est l\u00e0 qu&#8217;interviennent les \u00e9ducateurs\/trices d&#8217;adultes. Les \u00e9ducateurs\/trices d&#8217;adultes traitent des facteurs qui font que les gens \u00e0 travers le monde se sentent exclus et emp\u00eachent les individus d&#8217;atteindre leur plein potentiel. Imaginez comment les opportunit\u00e9s de d\u00e9veloppement \u00e9conomique pourraient s&#8217;am\u00e9liorer si ce potentiel r\u00e9prim\u00e9 se d\u00e9cha\u00eenait, sans parler de notre renforcement en tant que personnes. En tant qu&#8217;\u00e9ducateurs\/trices d&#8217;adultes, nous devons cr\u00e9er des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s civiles et justes en enseignant \u00e0 nos \u00e9tudiants\/tes \u00e0 penser de mani\u00e8re critique et \u00e0 respecter les autres formes de cultures. En tant qu&#8217;\u00e9ducateurs\/trices d&#8217;adultes, nous menons notre travail dans nos propres contextes uniques, comme en t\u00e9moignent les articles examin\u00e9s et dans un certain nombre d&#8217;hypoth\u00e8ses partag\u00e9es. Voici quelques unes\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Que nos interactions et nos relations se d\u00e9roulent dans un climat de respect mutuel pour les autres, y compris la culture, la religion, les choix de vie, l&#8217;orientation sexuelle, les valeurs de vie et l&#8217;origine ethnique.<\/li>\n<li>Que nous respectons les individus et les groupements collectifs auxquels ils appartiennent dans la communaut\u00e9 et les connaissances et l&#8217;expertise qui d\u00e9coulent des efforts de cette communaut\u00e9<\/li>\n<li>Que notre travail en tant qu&#8217;\u00e9ducateurs\/trices d&#8217;adultes consiste \u00e0 cr\u00e9er de l&#8217;espace afin que des r\u00e9sultats \u00e9quitables puissent \u00eatre obtenus, ce qui assurera la coh\u00e9sion de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00c9tant donn\u00e9 le r\u00f4le que la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 attend de nous en tant qu&#8217;\u00e9ducateurs\/trices d&#8217;adultes et notre r\u00f4le de critique et de conscience, nous devons d&#8217;abord r\u00e9primander un comportement inacceptable et, deuxi\u00e8mement, montrer notre soutien \u00e0 nos coll\u00e8gues appartenant \u00e0 ces secteurs exclus en cr\u00e9ant un espace pour leur inclusion &#8230; et leur inclusion sur des bases \u00e9gales. D\u00e9velopper les notions de pouvoir et de contr\u00f4le \u00e0 travers des analyses sociales performantes peut se produire quel que soit l&#8217;environnement dans lequel nous nous trouvons, que ce soit dans les arts, dans la classe ou dans les contextes communautaires.
